Main mission features
The Egyptian government, the Holding Company for Water and Wastewater (HCWW), the Egyptian Sovereign Wealth Fund (TSFE) and the International Support Group are cooperating to enhance water security through the development of a desalination and water treatment plan, a water security development plan, coupled with the deployment of renewable energies, which will define the opportunities for the transformation of the water sector in Egypt.
This support will aim to move from recurrent water scarcity to optimal and sustainable use of available water while reducing reliance on freshwater supplies from the Nile in coastal and remote areas.
The objective is to increase the supply of desalinated water by 8.8 million m3/day by 2050, supporting the government’s Vision 2030, The Egyptian government has requested the African Development Bank to provide technical assistance for the preparation of the water pillar (WP) of the Nexus of Water Food and Energy (NWFE) program.
Activities performed
Jade’s mission is to support the AfDB in the preparation of a concept note including a framework structure for the preparation of the desalination program related to 5 desalination plants in 4 governorates in Egypt.
It also involves carrying out an in-depth analysis of the current state and performance of the sectoral regulatory framework, and formulating recommendations based on best practices in order to strengthen and improve the chances of success of projects within the framework of the PPP mechanism by improving its attractiveness to investors.
