Main mission features
SWCC is the largest producer of desalinated water in the world with more than 2 billion cubic meters per day. Since the 1970s, it has relied on water desalination with expensive technologies that have become inefficient given the recent development of reverse osmosis technologies. SWCC is preparing for a major reform with the aim of increasing the cost of water desalination and relying more on the private sector. It engaged external consultants to determine the cost of water and its allocation.
The SWCC is also preparing to review and resubmit PPP projects for water desalination plants as well as new PPP projects for water pipelines.
